Towards the Crater Rim
What is this trip about?
Departing from the Senaru Village, you will hike from the Senaru gate (700 MASL) to Rinjani’s first crater rim (2641 MASL) for 7 hours through lush tropical rainforest where you can see animals like, pig, black monkeys, various bird species as well as a variety of tropical plants like rattan trees, orchid, pandanus trees, etc.
Wonderful sunset and sunrise, Segara Anak lake, the Baru Jari volcano, the summit of the Rinjani, half of Lombok island, three of Gili Islands, and Bali’s Mount Agung can be seen from the camping spot on the edge of the first crater rim.
This hike is perfect for beginners, children at least 7 years old, families, and honeymoon couples who want to see the beautiful scenery of the Rinjani without the difficulty of having to climb to its last summit. Ideally, count one night camping on the edge of the first Rinjani crater rim and one night at accommodation in Senaru before hiking (two nights in total).
🌋 How It Works
- You arrive in Senaru the day before the trek.
- We’ll provide a room for you in Senaru, so you can rest well before the trek.
- The trek starts at 07:00 AM sharp. Don’t be late — the mountain won’t wait!
- You’ll hike 20 km round-trip with about 2,000 meters of elevation gain.
- You’ll be guided by a local mountain guide and supported by porters.
- Wake up with the sunrise — an epic moment you won’t forget.
- After enjoying breakfast/snacks and taking in the view, we’ll hike back down to Senaru.
- You’ll arrive back in the village around 1–2 PM.
⚠️ Important Info
- Please do come the day before the trek starts and spend the night in Senaru to make sure you are fully prepared and to avoid any delays! Arriving on the starting day might add unnecessary pressure. Exceptions can be made if you don’t have much time on Lombok though.
- Transportation to Senaru is not included, but we can help you arrange it from anywhere in Lombok.
- Trail goes through dense forest with roots, rocks, and steep sections.
- It’s cold at the top, especially before sunrise — bring a jacket!
- Good hiking shoes are a must.
- Transport after the trek is not included, but of course, we’re happy to help you book it!
